What should be on your blog so far-As of 21st Jan 2013

Hi chaps!,

Here is what you should have on your blog up to now if you want to get a distinction!;

  • character work- what you discovered in the 'day in the life of' ex, what you learnt about your character in the self help group improvisation, the three character questions-what do i say about myself, what do other characters say about me, what do i say about other people? Discoveries about your characters voice and phsyicality during rehearsals, photographs of the 'role on the wall' that we created in class.

  • Research-background research into what your character does for a living or research into the country your character is from-videos, images, links to articles/you tube clips, drawings that you have made

  • Text work-annotated section of the section of text that you have in the play

  • Observations of how others are working

  • Observations of games and warm up tasks that we do-why did we do them, what did you learn about your character/yourself as an actor during it.

Portobello Road

A scattered cloud Saturday morning
and all that was old is born again.
Aged store fronts, all painted
with pastel colors and promises,
teem with urbanites eager to find
a peace missing from city life.

Antique dealers preen and polish
long forgotten treasures, and artisans
guard their works like museum curators
between falafel carts and T-shirts stands.
Costume jewels tossed in bins,
look like grandma’s button box;
they tell the story of wasted money
or a memory dead with the wearer.

It is serene, surreal and staccato
as the crowd flows down the street.
They stop momentarily and swirl in eddies
of painters and farm fresh produce
before the stream catches them
and they continue to bob on their way.

A day in the life of

This is an improvisation exercise to help actors live a 'day in the life' of their characters. The actors could choose either to pick a day from when the play is set in London or from a day set in the country where they are from.

To answer this question you could write down a list of times and then write about what your character was doing at that moment and then write a couple of paragraphs about what you have learnt through the exercise. eg

7am -Ara wakes up. she cleans her house that her and her family live in. There are sounds of chickens/market stall setting up/people shouting at each other

10am- Ara gets ready for school and walks along the busy, crowded road to get to the place where she meets her friends every morning. There are soldiers on the street
